CHOOSING THE RIGHT CONDOM

It doesn’t occur to many people that condoms have features that can make a big difference to the user experience – but they do. At Tunto, we want to share condom knowledge and tell you how to choose the right condom for you – and what you can do to make sure it’s always comfortable to use.

1. THE SIZE

The right size condom fits snugly in place and feels good in use. For most people, a regular size condom (e.g. Tunto Conture, 185mm length, 53mm width, 106mm circumference) will work well as the natural rubber stretches both in width and length. There are also smaller and larger condoms available (e.g. Tunto Large XL), and you should always choose the right size for you: a condom that is too small is difficult to get on intact and does not feel comfortable, and a condom that is too large can slip off during sex. The right size ensures the effect of contraception and feels good to use.

How do I choose the right size? The most important measurement when choosing a condom is the circumference: start by measuring the circumference of the erect penis, from its base. You can use a tape measure or string, for example. Next, measure the length of the erect penis, from the base to the tip with a ruler. The condom stretches more lengthwise, so it is important to make sure that the circumference of the penis matches the circumference of the condom.

This is how you measure the penis.

2. THE SHAPE

A condom can be either straight or shaped. A shaped condom (e.g. Tunto Conture) is shaped at the head so that it stays in place and is slightly narrower below the tip of the penis. For some, a shaped condom feels good, while for others a straight condom is more comfortable: this depends on the shape of the glans, for example. A straight condom is simply straight all the way round. Some condoms can also be wider at the tip, giving more room for a larger glans.

How do I choose the best shape? Find your favourite shape by trying different types of condoms – pay attention to how easily the condom rolls on, how it feels when in use and whether it stays in place well.

3. THINNESS

Condoms come in many different thicknesses – or in this case, thinness. A so-called normal condom is usually 0.06mm thick (e.g. Tunto Conture), and a very thin condom 0.04mm (e.g. Tunto Tosi Ohut). It is up to the individual which thickness suits them best. A thicker condom may feel more secure and delay ejaculation, while a very thin condom may feel like not using a condom at all. With thin condoms, as with other condoms, care should be taken to ensure that the condom does not break when it is put on.

How do I choose the right thickness? As with other condom types, the most suitable one can be found by trying different kinds of condoms!

OTHER FEATURES

There are many other features in condoms, including ribs, dots, blood circulation or sensory stimulants, and flavours that can take the experience of condom use to new heights. But the most important thing is to find the size, shape and thinness that suits you – everything else is an add-on to the sensation.

LATEX ALLERGY

If you suffer from a latex allergy or latex sensitivity, you should choose a latex-free version. Non-latex condoms are made from materials such as polyurethane, which is not as flexible as natural rubber: finding the right size is therefore particularly important.

WHAT IS A CONDOM

A condom is a contraceptive made of latex, or natural rubber. It is the only form of contraception that works to prevent both unwanted pregnancy and STIs. The condom contains a small amount of lubricant (silicone oil) that helps the condom to stay in place. The condom is rolled over the penis before intercourse or oral sex, leaving the semen inside. Condoms can also be used as contraception against STIs in oral sex by cutting it into a sheet of latex.Condoms are disposable and there is no minimum age for buying them in Finland. When used correctly, condoms have a very good contraceptive effect.

MORE PLEASURE TO SEX WITH A CONDOM

To many a thought of condoms is not sexy. However, it enables pleasure without possible repercussions – and putting it on can be made part of foreplay. The most important thing is that you use the most comfortable condom that feels good to use. Also try using lubricant with condoms: that makes putting it one easier, and lubricant increases pleasure in sex!
